By Nora Redmond Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang was heckled during his keynote speech at the company's artificial-intelligence conference in Berlin, Germany. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang was interrupted by a protester during his keynote speech at the chipmaking giant's artificial-intelligence conference in Berlin. A person, who has not been publicly identified, could be heard shouting about 20 minutes into the address, as Huang was showcasing the company's Vera Rubin hardware, which is built to train and operate AI models.
In the event's livestream, the billionaire was heard saying: "It's OK ... go easy ... give her a chance." "Everybody has a chance to say something," he added, before the crowd began applauding. Huang told the protesters that he would speak to them later. "Thank you," he said.
"All important issues, all important issues, but let me get through my keynote." The disruption lasted about one minute in total, during which the person, who could not be heard well in the livestream, continued shouting. At one point, they can be heard asking: "What are you doing about that?" An editor at the auditorium, working for a trade publication, reported that the activists claimed that Nvidia parts were found in Russian drones. The New York Times reported in August that Ukrainian officials said they found one of the company's Jetson Orin minicomputers in a drone launched by Russia's military.
At the time of the report, Nvidia said in a statement that the models were "consumer-grade products sold to students, developers and start-ups for a wide range of beneficial applications." It said the tool was not designed for military use and is not for sale in Russia, but is available on the secondhand market. Shares in Nvidia (NVDA) rose nearly 2% in premarket trading. Nvidia did not immediately respond to MarketWatch's request for comment. -Nora Redmond This content was created by MarketWatch, which is operated by Dow Jones & Co.
